Abstract

The article examines how hedonic and eudaimonic dimensions shape the cognitively grounded structure of memorable tourist experiences by analyzing YouTube vlogs documenting first-time visits to Japan. Findings reveal a strong predominance of hedonic elements, while eudaimonic expressions, linked to reflection and self-growth, appear mainly in solitary contexts. Drawing on Self-Congruity Theory, the study explains how alignment between self-concept, social context, and destination attributes shapes emotional expression in digital narratives and how shared content influences destination expectations, authenticity, and consumer behaviour within the broader framework of tourism marketing.
